Non-contrast-enhanced MR angiography of the thoracic aorta using a whole-chest 3D steady-state with free-precession technique

چکیده
Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is a valuable method of evaluating the thoracic aorta in a variety of clinical situations, including assessing patients with aneurysms, pseudoaneurysms, intramural hematomas, penetrating ulcerative plaques, dissections, stenoses, or congenital anomalies. Various MR techniques have been validated to assess the size and morphology of the aorta. 2 Current MRA protocols rely on contrast material enhanced sequences to image the aorta. For patients with difficult intravenous access, renal insufficiency or who are pregnant, non-contrast-enhanced MRA techniques could be an alternative method to evaluate the vasculature. The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of a non-contrast technique for aortic MR angiography using a non-selective, segmented 3D steadystate with free precession technique (TrueFISP) with motion adaptive respiratory navigators.

Figure 2. (A) Non contrast IR-SSFP MRA in a patient with transplanted right kidney demonstrates a mild less than 50% luminal narrowing at the anastamosis (long white arrow) with ipsilateral native right distal common iliac artery (short arrow). First order branches (arrowheads) are unremarkable. (B) Non contrast IR-SSFP MRA in a patient with transplanted right kidney demonstrates normal transpl...
متن کاملComparison of native high-resolution 3D and contrast-enhanced MR angiography for assessing the thoracic aorta.
AIMS To omit risks of contrast agent administration, native magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is desired for assessing the thoracic aorta. The aim was to evaluate a native steady-state free precession (SSFP) three-dimensional (3D) MRA in comparison with contrast-enhanced MRA as the gold standard. METHODS AND RESULTS Seventy-six prospective patients with known or suspicion of thoracic aorti...
متن کاملNon-Contrast Enhanced Renal Angiography Using Multiple Inversion Recovery and Steady-State Free Precession
Introduction: Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is a well-known cause of renal hypertension and can lead to chronic kidney failure. The recent connection between gadolinium contrast agents and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) has prompted renewed interest in non-contrast enhanced MR angiography (NCE MRA) for the diagnosis of RAS, most notably methods based on 3D balanced steady-state free precessi...

OBJECTIVE To validate the optimal cardiac phase and appropriate acquisition window for three-dimensional (3D) whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) with a steady-state free precession (SSFP) sequence, and to compare image quality between SSFP and Gd-enhanced fast low-angle shot (FLASH) MR techniques at 1.5 Tesla (T). MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty healthy volunteers (M:F = 2...
